Director – Timothy Mauthe
I am currently a DMA candidate in composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music. I earned an MM in composition from CIM in 2009, and a BA in composition and sound engineering from Virginia Tech in 2006. My composition teachers at Virginia Tech were Patrick Simpson and Kent Holliday. At CIM, I’ve studied composition with Margaret Brouwer, Keith Fitch, and Steven Kohn. I have presented works in masterclasses with Eugene O’Brien, David Rakowski, Steven Stucky, Joan Tower, David Lang, and Edward Green.
As a violinist and violist, I’m active as an orchestral player, chamber musician, and soloist. I studied violin, viola, and conducting with James Glazebrook, viola with Kirsten Doctor. Chamber music coaches have included Peter Salaff, Anita Pontremoli, Virginia Weckstrom, Alan Weinstein, Tracey Cowden, and Doris Lederer. I have participated in chamber and solo masterclasses with David Kim, Peter Oundjian, and Gilbert Kalish.
As and orchestral player, I have performed with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (2nd violin), Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra (viola), New River Valley Symphony (concertmaster and viola), and the Suburban Symphony Orchestra (viola).
